Automated Engine-Head Component Presence, Orientation & Marking Inspection
The Challenge
When Existing Inspection Misses Critical Conditions
The existing inspection setup was unable to reliably verify all required engine-head assembly conditions, particularly component presence/absence and recognition of markings.
The requirement called for a more flexible vision solution capable of checking multiple component features on the engine-head assembly.

Inspection Scope
Presence, Orientation, and Marking
- Cam cap presence / absence.
- Cam cap orientation.
- Cam cap marking recognition.
- Rocker arm presence.
- Washer presence at the bottom of the assembly.

RoshAi Solution
AI Inspection With a Moving Viewpoint
RoshAi proposed an IQI-based inspection system combined with a motion platform to capture the required views of the engine head. AI-driven inspection is used to evaluate component presence, orientation and markings, providing a production-oriented inspection decision for the defined assembly checks.

Validation / Status
Validated Against Defined Engine-Head Requirements
- PROJECT STATUS: DEPLOYED
The developed solution was validated against the identified engine-head inspection requirements and has since been deployed for the customer. It addresses the required component presence, orientation and marking checks through a production-oriented AI and motion-platform architecture.
Business Value
Consolidating Multiple Assembly Checks
- Consolidates multiple assembly checks into one inspection approach.
- Addresses checks not reliably covered by the existing system.
- Reduces manual verification of component presence and orientation.
- Creates a platform that can be repurposed for future inspection applications.

Scale Potential
A Foundation for Additional Inspection Stations
The deployed system provides a base for expansion to additional inspection stations and similar applications, with the architecture designed to support multi-machine rollout and future repurposing.
